How to Play a 4-Person Team Quota
Let's break all that down. What is the quota referred to in the name of the game? Each team's quota is based on the combined handicaps of the team members. Add up those handicaps, then subtract from 144. What's left is the team's quota.
For example: Let's say on your team Golfer A has a handicap of 5, Golfer B of 11, Golfer C of 20 and Golfer D of 28. What does that add up to? Five + 11 + 20 + 28 equals 64. Now we subtract 64 from 144: 144 minus 64 equals 80. And that's your team's quota: 80 points.
Now your team's goal is to beat 80 points by as much as you can. Points are based on each golfer's net score on each hole. Points are earned this way:
- A golfer who makes a net bogey earns 1 point for her team.
- A net par earns 2 points;
- A net birdie earns 3 points;
- A net eagle earns 4 points.
The 4-Person Team Quota format works best when all golfers involved have established handicaps. That way, team quotas can be calculated before the round and everyone knows what quota they have to beat. But if not everyone has an established handicap, 4-Person Team Quota can still be played by employing one of the various post-hoc, single-round handicap systems (e.g., Callaway System, Peoria System, Blind Bogey Handicap). Going that route makes it much tougher on tournament organizers, however, since all the calculations (starting with determining those handicaps) have to take place post-round.
Four-Person Team Quota also works for golf buddy trips involving eight or 12 golfers, or any group of golfers that involves multiples of four.
