Whose record did Goalby beat? When Goalby's 8-birdies-in-a-row streak happened in 1961, newspapers reported that three golfers were known to have had streaks of seven consecutive birdies in a PGA Tour event: Warren Smith in the 1954 Texas Open, Tommy Bolt in the 1955 San Diego Open, and Don Bisplinghoff in the 1961 Pensacola Open. It took 48 years after Goalby's streak for anyone to beat it — Calcavecchia in 2009.
