What Happened at the 2001 U.S. Women's Open

Karrie Webb ran away with the title at the 2001 U.S. Women's Open, earning her second consecutive victory in the tournament.

In the 2000 U.S. Women's Open, Webb won by five strokes. Here, she led by three after the second round, by five following the third round, and won by eight strokes over runner-up Se Ri Pak. That tied the largest margin of victory in any USWO since 1954.

The win also made Webb the seventh golfer to win the U.S. Women's Open in back-to-back years. It was the fifth of her seven career wins in majors, and the 24th of her 41 career wins on the LPGA Tour. Webb's winning score of 273 was one stroke off the then-tournament record for lowest 72-hole hole.

Future LPGA major winner Morgan Pressel made her USWO and major championship debut here at the age of 13. She set a record at the time (since broken) for youngest golfer to play her way into the U.S. Women's Open through qualifying. Pressel shot 77-77 and missed the cut.
