What Happened in the 2010 U.S. Women's Open

Paula Creamer, playing with her left thumb still wrapped a few months after having surgery on the digit, won her first and only major championship title at the 2010 U.S. Women's Open.

At tough-scoring Oakmont, Creamer moved into a share of the lead after 36 holes with scores of 72 and 70. She then took the solo lead on the strength of a third-round 70. She birdied the 18th hole of her third round to take a three-stroke lead.

Suzann Pettersen and Na Yeon Choi made challenges in the final round, each getting within two strokes of Creamer's lead at different points. Choi finished with a 66, the second-lowest score of the tournament. But Creamer had a 69 herself, very good scoring on the day, and relegated Pettersen and Choi to a tie for second place. Creamer, age 23, finished at 3-under 281 for a four-stroke victory.

Lexi Thompson, who turned pro at age 15 just prior to the tournament, finished in a tie for 10th place.
