Longest Gap Between Successive Wins: LPGA Tour Record
The all-time record on the LPGA Tour is nearly 15 years between wins. And there is another golfer who went more than 13 years between successive wins on the LPGA.
Dale Eggeling: 14 years, 11 months Between Wins
Eggeling was a rookie on the LPGA Tour in 1976. In 1980 she got her first victory at the Boston Five Classic, when she was 26 years old.But then followed nearly 15 years of frustration, with no other wins to show for her hard work. Until the 1995 Oldsmobile Classic came around.
Eggeling, now 41 years old, opened with a 63, a score that tied the tournament's 18-hole record. She held the lead after the second and third rounds, and took a 2-stroke lead into the final round.
In that fourth round, Eggeling shot a 1-under 71. It was good enough for a two-stroke win over the three runners-up, Meg Mallon, Elaine Crosby and Annika Sorenstam.
Eggeling earned $90,000 for the win, which was more than she had made in 15 of 19 years on the LPGA Tour to that point. She had one more win in her career at the 1998 Los Angeles Women's Championship.
Shelley Hamlin: 13 years, 5 months Between Wins
Shelley Hamlin joined the LPGA Tour in 1972. Her first win happened at the 1978 Patty Berg Classic. It was 13½ years before she won again. At 42 years old in 1992, Hamlin trailed by four strokes entering the final round of The Phar-Mor at Inverrary. Then she scored 66 to win by one over runners-up JoAnne Carner, Dana Lofland and Brandie Burton.
This victory carried greater significance for Hamlin than just being her first win in 13 years and 5 months. The year earlier she was diagnosed with breast cancer and underwent a mastectomy. Then she had to go through LPGA Q-School to get her card back.
Hamlin had one more win in her career, at the 1993 ShopRite LPGA Classic.
