Australian Ladies Masters Golf Tournament

The Australian Ladies Masters golf tournament was played under various names for nearly 30 years. For some of those years it was an LPGA Tour tournament, and others it was part of the Ladies European Tour schedule. Karrie Webb won it eight times.

First played: 1990

Last played: 2017

The Australian Ladies Masters tournament was part of the ALPG Tour and was one of the biggest events on that tour. But from 1997-2000, it was counted as an official LPGA Tour event, too. And from 2001 until it ended, the Ladies European Tour co-sanctioned it.

Karrie Webb was by far the tournament's biggest star. She won it eight times, including four consecutive times from 1998 through 2001. It took Annika Sorenstam beating her in a playoff in 2002 to end that run by Webb. But Webb went on to win in 2005, 2007, 2010 and 2013, as well. In addition to the playoff loss to Sorenstam in 2002, Webb was also runner-up in 1994, 1997 and 2003. So 12 times total she won or finished second.

Sorenstam was a three-time winner herself, as was Laura Davies. Cheyenne Woods, niece of Tiger Woods, won the Australia Ladies Masters in 2014. When Amy Yang won as a 16-year-old amateur in 2006, she became the youngest Ladies European Tour winner ever (a record since broken).

The 72-hole tournament scoring record was 262, recorded twice by Webb, in 1999 and again in 2010. Both times, she was 26-under par. Her 1999 victory was by 10 strokes, also the tournament record.

Also known as: The tournament was called the Daikyo Australian Ladies Masters the first two years it was played, and the RACV Gold Coast Challenge the last year. From 2001-2010, it was the ANZ Ladies Masters. Other names employed over the years were Alpine Australian Ladies Masters, ANZ RACV Ladies Masters, Gold Coast RACV Australian Ladies Masters and Volvik RACV Ladies Masters.
