Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren: Timeline of Their Marriage

Tiger Woods, one of the most famous people on the planet, and Elin Nordegren, who was a nanny when they met, once had one of the best-known celebrity marriages. It was one that seemed from the outside — and was always presented this way from the inside — idyllic. Of course, the Woods-Nordegren marriage soon came crashing (literally) down.

What follows is brief timeline of the key points in the Woods-Nordegren marriage, starting from when they met and ending when they divorced.

• Tiger Woods and Elin Nordegren were introduced during the 2001 British Open by Swedish golfer Jesper Parnevik. At the time, Nordegren, from Sweden, was working as a nanny for the Parnevik family. Woods was 25, Nordegren was 21. They soon began dating.

• After dating for nearly 18 months, Woods asked Nordegren to marry him in late November 2003. The proposal happened in South Africa, where the couple stayed on safari following Tiger's appearance in the 2003 Presidents Cup. Nordegren said yes.

• The Elin and Tiger Woods wedding took place on October 5, 2004, in Barbados. Woods rented out the entire Sandy Lane resort for the affair, which reportedly cost as much as $1,500,000.

• The Woodses moved into a luxury country club community of Iselworth in Windermere, Florida. That was their primary residence for the duration of their marriage. (They later purchased a home and property in Jupiter Island, Florida, but divorced before moving in.)

• The Woods' first child, daughter Sam Alexis, was born on June 18, 2007.
