2023 British Open Tournament Winner and Scores

The 2023 British Open was the 151st time this major championship tournament was played. Brian Harman took a five-stroke lead after scoring 65 in the second round, and was never challenged after that. He won by six strokes.

Winner: Brian Harman, 271

Where it was played: Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake, England

Tournament dates: July 20-23, 2023

Leaders after first round: Tommy Fleetwood, Emiliano Grillo and a-Christo Lamprecht, 66

Leader after second round: Brian Harman, 132

Leader after third round: Brian Harman, 201

Notable notes: Brian Harman won the 2023 Open by six strokes over runners-up Jason Day, Tom Kim, Jon Rahm and Sepp Straka. It was his third win on the PGA Tour, but his first win since 2017.

Harman opened with a 67, one stroke off the first-round lead. But a 65 in the second round opened a five-stroke lead for him. It was the largest 36-hole lead by anyone in the Open Championship since 1934. He opened his third round with bogeys on two of the first four holes, dropping his lead to two. But Harman righted himself and ended the third round still leading by five. The third round also included a 63 by Rahm that moved him into third place and was the lowest score to this point in any Open played at Royal Liverpool.

Harman made the final round a bit anticlimactic. He did have a couple stumbles that reduced his lead to three strokes and to four strokes at different times, but always rebounded. He carded a final-round 70 to win by six strokes. For one of the runners-up, Day, it was his fifth second-place finish in a major.
