2021 British Open Winner and Scores

The 2021 British Open was the 149th time this tournament was played. A 24-year-old making just his eighth career start in a major won it.

Winner: Collin Morikawa, 265

Where it was played: Royal St. George's Golf Club in Sandwich, England

Tournament dates: July 15-18, 2021

Leader after first round: Louis Oosthuizen, 64

Leader after second round: Louis Oosthuizen, 129

Leader after third round: Louis Oosthuizen, 198

Notable notes: Collin Morikawa won his second career major (the first was the 2020 PGA Championship) in just his eighth career start in a major championship. And he did it by recording a score of 265, second-lowest in Open Championship history.

Louis Oosthuizen's first two rounds of 64 and 65 produced the lowest opening 36-hole score (129) in Open Championship history, and Oosthuizen still led after the third round. But Morikawa jumped into the lead by shooting 32 on the front nine of his final round. He wound up with a 66 to finish at 15-under 265. Oosthuizen carded a final-round 71 and dropped into a tie for third.

According to golf stats guru Justin Ray, Morikawa became just the second golfer (after Tiger Woods) to win both the British Open and PGA Championship before turning 25 years old. And Morikawa joined Jack Nicklaus and Bobby Jones as the only golfers younger than 25 to come from behind in the final round to win two majors.
