LPGA Record: Consecutive Wins in the Same Tournament
5 Wins in a Row: Annika Sorenstam
Is it any surprise that the recordholder in this category is Annika Sorenstam? Sorenstam won the LPGA Mizuno Classic, the tour's event in Japan, five consecutive years, from 2001 through 2005.In 2001, Sorenstam won by three over runner-up Laura Davies. In 2002, she earned a one-stroke win over Grace Park. In 2003 and 2004, her victories were by nine strokes each (over Park, Se Ri Pak and Sophie Gustafson in 2003; and over Park, Michie Ohba and amateur Ai Miyazato in 2004).
The last Mizuno Classic win in Sorenstam's 5-in-a-row streak was in 2005 by three strokes over Jennifer Rosales. Going for six consecutive wins in 2006, Sorenstam finished tied for third place.
4 Wins in a Row: Laura Davies
Laura Davies is the only other golfer in LPGA history to win the same tournament at least four years running. She won the Standard Register Ping four consecutive years from 1994 through 1997.More notes: There are multiple LPGA golfers who won the same tournament three years in a row, including Sorenstam who did that twice. Annika won the Michelob Light Classic in 1997, 1998 and 1999; and the LPGA Championship, a major, in 2003, 2004 and 2005. Sorenstam is the only LPGA player to win the same major three successive years.
The first golfer to win the same tournament three years running on the LPGA Tour was Patty Berg, who won the World Championship in 1953, 1954 and 1955.
Karrie Webb also deserves mention. She won the Australian Ladies Masters in 1998, 1999 and 2000, when it was an official LPGA tournament. Webb won the Australian Ladies Masters a fourth consecutive year in 2001, but that year's event is not counted as an official LPGA win.
