1993 Ryder Cup Winner, Match Scores, Player Records

The 1993 Ryder Cup was the 30th time this tournament was played. Following the Team USA victory, the all-time standings were 23 wins for the United States, five wins for Europe, and two draws.

Final Score: United States 15, Europe 13

Dates Played: September 24-26, 1993

Golf Course: The Belfry (Brabazon Course) in Wishaw, Warwickshire, England

Team Captains: Tom Watson for the United States, Bernard Gallacher for Europe

Team Rosters:

  • USA — Paul Azinger, Fred Couples, Tom Kite, Lee Janzen, Corey Pavin, Payne Stewart, John Cook, Davis Love III, Chip Beck, Jim Gallagher Jr., Raymond Floyd, Lanny Wadkins
  • Europe — Bernhard Langer, Nick Faldo, Colin Mongomerie, Costantino Rocca, Barry Lane, Ian Woosnam, Peter Baker, Mark James, Sam Torrance, Joakim Haeggman, Jose Maria Olazabal, Seve Ballesteros
Match Notes: Team Europe led by a point after Day 1's play, then won the first session of Day 2, 3-1, to open a three-point lead. Team USA rallied from there, however, starting with a 3-1 edge in the afternoon session on Day 2.

Going into singles, Europe led by one point. But on the final day, led by 51-year-old captain's pick Raymond Floyd, Team USA picked up 7.5 of the available 12 points to win the Cup.

Floyd, the oldest player in Ryder Cup history, went 3-1-0 overall. In singles, he sank three birdie putts on the back nine to beat Jose Maria Olazabal, 2-up. Another key singles match was Chip Beck's victory over Barry Lane. Beck rallied from a 3-down deficit to win 1-up, pushing his career Ryder Cup singles record to 3-0.

Floyd first played in the 1969 Ryder Cup, and that 24-year gap between his first and last playing appearances is the Team USA record, and tied with Dai Rees for the overall tournament record.

Nick Faldo and Paul Azinger, who captained against each other in the 2008 Ryder Cup, met in singles and halved. But during that match, Faldo made just the second hole-in-one in Ryder Cup history.

Costantino Rocca became the first Italian golfer in the Ryder Cup here, and Davis Love III was the most notable of the rookie debuts.
