Ben Hogan Award for Perseverance (from GWAA)

Paul Azinger received the Ben Hogan Award

There are multiple Ben Hogan Awards in golf, including a well-known one that goes to a college or amateur golfer every year. But the one we're discussing here is presented by the Golf Writers Association of America (GWAA) to golfers for their perseverance in overcoming or battling physical adversity.

The GWAA Ben Hogan Award has been given annually since 1954 "to an individual who has continued to be active in golf despite a physical handicap or serious illness." Many of the names on the list of recipients below are very famous golfers; many others are not.

The award was inspired by Ben Hogan's awful car crash that happened in 1949, and his recovery (although he battled the effects of his injuries for the rest of his life) to win major championships again. The Ben Hogan Golf Company donated the original statuette presented to recipients.
