1993 Walker Cup Winner and Match Scores

The 1993 Walker Cup was the 34th time this competition took place. Following the United States team's victory, the all-time standings were 30 wins for Team USA, three wins for Team GB&I, one tie.

Final Score: United States 19, Great Britain & Ireland 5

Dates Played: August 18-19, 1993

Location: Interlachen Country Club in Edina, Minnesota

Team Captains: George Macgregor for Great Britain & Ireland, Vinny Giles for the United States

Team Rosters:

  • GB&I — Raymond Burns, Stuart Cage, Bradley Dredge, Padraig Harrington, Paul Page, Van Phillips, Iain Pyman, Dean Robertson, Raymond Russell, Matt Stanford
  • USA — David Berganio, Todd Demsey, Allen Doyle, Brian Gary, John Harris, Tim Herron, Justin Leonard, Kelley Mitchum, Jay Sigel, Danny Yates
Notes: Weather interruped this Walker Cup and then forced a change in format. Due to heavy rain the night before, the foursomes on Day 1 were skipped. Instead, the teams squared off in 10 (rather than the usual eight) singles matches. Four foursomes were played on Day 2, followed by another 10 singles matches.

The result was not good for Team GB&I. The 14-point margin of victory makes this the biggest win/worst loss in Walker Cup history. The 19 points earned by Team USA was a record at the time, later tied by the American squad at the 2017 Walker Cup.

This was Jay Sigel's ninth and final time playing for Team USA in a Walker Cup. His nine appearances are the Team USA record, and his 18 match wins and 20.5 points earned are easily the all-time Walker Cup records.
