Notes: Team USA swept the Day 1 foursomes en route to the win. Jack Nicklaus made the first of his two Walker Cup appearances, partnering with Ward Wettlaufer in foursomes and defeating Dickson Smith in singles.

One of the foursomes wins was by a 9-and-8 margin: Billy Joe Patton and team captain Charles Coe defeated Michael Bonallack and Arthur Perowne. The margin is tied for the largest in foursomes in Walker Cup history (keep in mind matches were 36 holes at this point).

Bonallack made the first of his eight playing appearances for GB&I (he was named to the team in 1957 but didn't play). Bonallack today remains second all-time for GB&I in playing appearances, match wins and points earned.
