Played for the first time since 1938 due to World War II, the 1947 Walker Cup was the 11th time this competition took place. Following the United States victory, the all-time standings were 10 wins for Team USA, one win for Team GB&I.

Final Score: United States 8, Great Britain & Ireland 4

Dates Played: May 16-17, 1947

Location: The Old Course at St. Andrews, Scotland

Team Captains: Francis Ouimet for the United States, John Beck for Great Britain & Ireland

Team Rosters:

Notes: At the 1938 Walker Cup, the last one played prior to this one, Team GB&I earned its first-ever win. Here, GB&I matched Team USA in the foursomes, ending day one tied 2-2. But the United States was too much in singles, winning six of the eight matches.

The 1938 match was played in St. Andrews, meaning this match should have taken place somewhere in the United States. But in the aftermath of World War II, the GB&I side simply couldn't raise the money required for travel. So the Americans traveled once again to St. Andrews.

Ireland's Joe Carr made his debut for GB&I. He eventually played the Walker Cup 10 times (last in 1967), which is the Walker Cup record for most appearances by any player. ... Laddie Lucas of GB&I was the first left-handed golfer in Walker Cup history.
