What Happened in the 2020 Masters Tournament
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the 2020 Masters was postponed from its traditional April date and played in November instead. And the tournament also took place without spectators present. But Dustin Johnson didn't mind the unusual circumstances: He won the green jacket with a tournament-record score of 20-under 268.Johnson held or shared the lead after each round. He had a score of 65 in both the first and third rounds, and entered the final round with a 4-stroke lead. That lead was reduced to just one over Cameron Smith at one point on the front nine of the final round, but Johnson led by two when he completed the ninth hole.
Johnson wound up winning by five over Smith and, in his Masters debut, Sung-jae Im. (Smith carded four rounds in the 60s, the first golfer in Masters history to do that.) It was Johnson's 24th career win on the PGA Tour, and his second major championship victory.
Defending champion Tiger Woods made a 10 on the par-3 12th hole in the final round. ... Sixty-three-year-old Bernhard Langer became the oldest golfer to make the cut in a Masters. ... Future Green Jacket winner Scottie Scheffler made his masters debut and tied for 19th place.
