1996 Curtis Cup Winner and Match Scores

The 1996 Curtis Cup was the 29th time this tournament was played. Following Team GB&I's victory, the all-time standings were 20 wins for Team USA, six for GB&I, and three ties.

Final Score: Great Britain & Ireland 11.5, United States 6.5

Dates Played: June 21-22, 1996

Location: Killarney Golf & Fishing Club (Killeen Course) in Killarney, County Kerry, Ireland

Team Captains: Martha Lang for the United States and Ita Butler for Great Britain & Ireland

Team Rosters:

  • USA — Kellee Booth, Brenda Corrie Kuehn, Sarah LeBrun Ingram, Marla Jemsek, Cristie Kerr, Kelli Kuehne, Ellen Port, Carol Semple Thompson
  • GB&I — Lisa Dermott, Lisa Educate, Julie Hall, Mhairi McKay, Janice Moodie, Elaine Ratcliffe, Alison Rose, Karen Stupples
Notes: After winning the 1992 Curtis Cup and tying the 1994 Curtis Cup to retain the trophy, Team GB&I, for the first time ever, held the Cup for a third consecutive time here.

After splitting the morning session on Day 1, GB&I made its move in the Day 1 singles. Future LPGA players Karen Stupples, Mhairi McKay and Janice Moody all won, helping GB&I earn 4.5 of the six available points.

At the end of Day 1, GB&I led 6-3, and Team USA wasn't able to mount a charge on Day 2. Moodie led her side with a 3-0-1 record.

Kellee Booth was on Team USA, which was significant: Her mother, Jane Bastanchury Booth, played for Team USA in three Cups in the 1970s. They became the first mother-daughter tandem to both play in the Curtis Cup. One of Kellee's teammates was Brenda Corrie Kuehn. At the 2021 Curtis Cup, Brenda's daughter Rachel Kuehn played for Team USA, making the Kuehns the second mother-daughter pair.

And one year after her brother Trip played in the 1995 Walker Cup, Kelli Kuehne was on Team USA. The Kuehnes were the third sister-brother pair to play the Curtis Cup-Walker Cup double, after the Bonallacks (Sally and Michael) and the Moodys (Terri and Griff).
