Full List of Bob Jones Award Winners
The Bob Jones Award is presented annually by the United States Golf Association and is the USGA's highest award. It is given to an individual "who demonstrates the spirit, personal character and respect for the game exhibited by Jones."
That would be Bobby Jones, of course. The award has been given out since 1955, when its first recipient was Francis Ouimet — like Jones, a golfer who won the U.S. Open as an amateur.
The Bob Jones Award can be presented to a man or a woman, a pro golfer or amateur golfer, a superstar who has won majors or a behind-the scenes person such as a tournament organizer. It has also gone to journalists, golf course builders, rules officials.
The Bob Jones Award has has been presented posthusmously several times, including to Babe Zaharias in 1957 and Payne Stewart in 2014. Gary Player, in 1966, was the first of "the Big 3" honored, followed by Arnold Palmer in 1971 and Jack Nicklaus in 1975. When Barbara Nicklaus was given the award in 2015, the Nicklauses became the first husband-and-wife honored.
