Senior British Open Winners: The Full List

Gary Player is among the Senior British Open winners
The Senior Open Championship is one of the majors in senior (over-50) golf. It is also called The Senior Open or, by some golfers, the Senior British Open (to differentiate it from the U.S. Senior Open). This tournament is run by the R&A and has been a senior major in Europe since its founding in 1987. The tournament pre-dates the founding of the European Seniors Tour (which happened in 1992).

The U.S.-based Champions Tour, however, did not recognize this event as one of its own majors until 2003. The Senior Open Championship is played on many of the same golf courses that host the British Open. But it also ventures outside the normal Open rota, including, sometimes, onto non-links courses.

Golfers With Most Senior British Open Wins

The record for most wins in the Senior British Open is four:
  • 4 wins — Bernhard Langer (2010, 2014, 2017, 2019)
  • 3 wins — Gary Player (1988, 1990, 1997)
  • 3 wins — Tom Watson (2003, 2005, 2007)
