What Happened in the 2019 Masters Tournament
Fourteen years after his last Masters win, nearly 11 years after his last win in any of the four majors, Tiger Woods claimed the 2019 Masters title. It was Woods' fifth Masters win, his 15th overall major win, his 81st overall PGA Tour win.Woods was tied for sixth place after two rounds, scoring 70-68. With a 67 in Round 3, Woods moved into a tie for second, two strokes behind leader Francesco Molinari.
But Molinari double-bogeyed the 12th and 15th holes in the final round, hitting into water on each, and fell back to fifth. Woods, though, birdied holes 13, 15 and 16, shot 70 in the final round, and won by one stroke. The runners-up were Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Xander Schauffele.
At age 43, Woods was the second-oldest Masters winner to this point, behind only Jack Nicklaus (age 46 when he won the 1986 Masters). Woods' five Masters wins and 15 major wins were also second only Nicklaus. And his 81st overall PGA Tour win left him one shy of tying Sam Snead on the all-time wins list.
Trevor Immelman, winner of the 2008 Masters, made his final start in any of the four majors here and tied for 51st place.
