This was the 15th time the Solheim Cup was played. After the American victory, the overall standings in the event's history was USA 10, Europe 5.

Match Notes: Europe won the first session of the tournament, but the United States claimed nine of the next 12 points to produce the final 5-point margin of victory.

Cristie Kerr became Team USA's all-time leading Solheim Cup points-earner, going 3-0-1 here and increasing her lifetime points to 21. Juli Inkster, Team USA captain here, had been the previous recordholder with 18.5 points. Kerr and partner Lexi Thompson set the tone in the tournament's Day 1 opening match. Down two with two holes to play against Mel Reid/Charley Hull, Kerr/Thompson won the last two holes to salvage a half-point.

Team USA began to pull away in the afternoon session of Day 1, going 4-for-4 in the fourballs. It was the first time in Solheim Cup history the American team swept a session. That gave the U.S. a 3-point lead that Europe was unable to cut into.

For Team Europe, Catriona Matthew was originally named as a non-playing vice captain. But when Suzann Pettersen withdrew due to a back injury, Matthew stepped into the playing lineup and went 3-1-0. At a week shy of her 48th birthday, Matthew became the oldest Team Europe Solheim Cup player to this point.
