2015 Solheim Cup: Winner, Match Scores, Player Records

This was the 14th time the Solheim Cup was played. After the American victory, the overall standings in the event's history was USA 9, Europe 5.

Final score: USA 14.5, Europe 13.5

Dates played: September 18-20, 2015

Location: Golf Club St. Leon-Rot (St.Leon Course) in St. Leon-Rot, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany

Team captains: Juli Inkster (USA) and Carin Koch (EUR)

Team rosters:

  • USA — Stacy Lewis, Lexi Thompson, Cristie Kerr, Michelle Wie, Brittany Lincicome, Morgan Pressel, Angela Stanford, Gerina Piller, Alison Lee, Lizette Salas, Brittany Lang, Paula Creamer.
  • Europe — Suzann Pettersen, Gwladys Nocera, Charley Hull, Melissa Reid, Anna Nordqvist, Azahara Munoz, Sandra Gal, Carlota Ciganda, Catriona Matthew, Karine Icher, Caroline Masson, Caroline Hedwall.

Match Notes: This edition of the tournament produced both the closest final score to this point, and the biggest comeback to this point. The United States trailed 10-6 before dominating Sunday singles to win by one point.

It also produced controversy. In a Day 2 four-ball match, with the match all square on the 17th green, USA's Alison Lee picked up an 18-inch putt, rather than hole it out, assuming the putt had been conceded. Europe's Suzann Pettersen called Lee on it, saying the putt had not been conceded. The resulting penalty to Lee gave Pettersen/Hull the hole, and they went on to win the match. There was a great gnashing of teeth among golf fans and media, most of it directed at Pettersen. It was Lee whose mistake led to the controversy, but Pettersen suffered many accusations of being unsportsmanlike and offered an apology the following day.

On the final day in singles, Pettersen and Hull both lost, while Lee won. The United States needed 8.5 of the 12 points available in singles to pull off the comeback victory, and that is exactly what they got.
