Hamilton was in the military, but served his time as the pro at the Fort Lewis golf club. The tournament was played in nearby Spokane, Wash., so Hamilton was able to participate. ... To reach the final, Hamilton defeated Gene Kunes, Harry Bassler, Jug McSpaden and George Schneiter. ... This was the third PGA runner-up finish for Nelson, who also had two victories.
