1925 British Open Winner and Scores

The 1925 British Open was the 60th time this major was played. It was a going-away gift to Jim Barnes from Prestwick.

Winner: Jim Barnes, 300

Where it was played: Prestwick Golf Club in Prestwick, South Ayrshire, Scotland

Tournament dates: June 25-26

Leader after first round: Jim Barnes, 70

Leader after second round: Macdonald Smith, 145

Leader after third round: Macdonald Smith, 220

Notable Notes: This was the last of Jim Barnes' four wins in majors, it was the last Open played at Prestwick, and it was the last Open played over just two days (36 holes per day). ... Macdonald Smith led Barnes and Archie Compston by five strokes entering the final round, but Smith — who never won a major despite more than 20 PGA Tour wins — ballooned to an 82. ... Barnes outplayed Compston, 74-75, to win by a stroke. ... Ted Ray, tied for second, and J.H. Taylor, tied for seventh, both posted their final Top 10s in an Open.
