Notable Notes: Harry Vardon led Sandy Herd and J.H. Taylor by three strokes entering the final round, with Arnaud Massy one more behind, but then carded an 80. Massy capitalized with a 76 to tie and force a playoff with Vardon. ... Massy, the 1907 Open champ, began the playoff in good shape before a couple bad holes near the end of the morning 18. ... Vardon began pulling away in the afternoon 18. By the 34th hole, his lead was 10 strokes. Massy conceded on the 35th hole, ending the playoff early. ... It was the fifth of Vardon's six career Open wins.
