Trophee Lancome Golf Tournament Winners (European Tour)
First played: 1970
Last played: 2003
Between its founding in 1970 and 1980, the Trophee Lancome's roster of champions was hard to beat: Tony Jacklin won the inaugural, and there was Arnold Palmer, Johnny Miller (twice), Billy Casper, Gary Player, Seve Ballesteros and Lee Trevino (twice).
Palmer was the runner-up by one stroke to Jacklin in 1970; beat Player by two strokes to win in 1971; and was runner-up by one stroke to Ballesteros in 1976. Palmer, Casper and Player were all late in their careers at the times of their Trophee Lancome victories, and each won only a handful more times after winning here.
Ballesteros, though, was the big winner in this event. He holds the tournament record with four wins (1976, 1983, 1986, 1988). In 1976, the Trophee Lancome was not yet part of the European Tour, however, so only the later three of Ballesteros' victories are counted as among his 50 Euro Tour wins.
Ballesteros came close to multiple other wins. He lost playoffs in 1977 (to Graham Marsh) and 1984 (to Sandy Lyle), and was also runner-up in 1982. One of his victories included a playoff, but he didn't actually win the playoff: In 1986, a playoff between Ballesteros and Bernhard Langer was halted by darkness after four holes, so they shared the title.
