2005 PGA Championship Winner and Scores

The 2005 PGA Championship was the 87th time the tournament was played. It required a Monday finish due to weather conditions.

Winner: Phil Mickelson, 276

Where it was played: Baltusrol Golf Club (Lower Course) in Springfield, New Jersey

Tournament dates: August 11-15, 2005

Leader after first round: Phil Mickelson, Rory Sabbatini, Trevor Immelman, Ben Curtis, Stephen Ames and Stuart Appleby, 67

Leader after second round: Phil Mickelson, 132

Leader after third round: Phil Mickelson and Davis Love III, 204

Notable Notes: Phil Mickelson won his second career major championship, and his first PGA Championship, but needed a final-hole birdie to do it.

Mickelson shared or held the lead at the end of each round, and when weather halted final-round play on Sunday Mickelson was one in front of Steve Elkington and Thomas Bjorn with five holes to play.

And that's how it ended on Monday. But Mickelson appeared to be in trouble on the final hole, at which point he was tied with Bjorn and Elkington. His approach to the par-5 green found deep rough about 50 feet from the hole. Mickelson hit one of his signature flop shots, and the ball stopped two feet from the pin. He tapped it in for the winning birdie.
