Jersey Open on the European Tour

No, the Jersey Open was not a golf tournament in New Jersey. It was an event on the European Tour played on the island of Jersey, one of the Channel Islands. It took place from the late 1970s into the 1990s.

First played: 1978

Last played: 1995

Bernard Gallacher was the only multiple winner of the Jersey Open, taking the trophy in 1982 and 1984. The year in-between, 1983, Gallacher finished runner-up.

Tony Jacklin's win in 1981 was his second-to-last. Bernhard Langer was the runner-up to Jacklin, just as he was in Jacklin's final Euro Tour victory a year later at the British PGA Championship. ... Brian Huggett's victory in the inaugural event in 1978 was the last of his 34 professional wins until he won on the European Seniors Tour 20 years later. ... The second Jersey Open (then called the B.A./Avis Open) in 1979 went to Sandy Lyle — the first of his 18 career Euro Tour victories.

The tournament scoring record of 266 was set by Paul Curry in 1994. It was Curry's only win on the European Tour.

The tournament ended after the 1995 season when new sponsorship could not be found. However, in 1996 a new event at the same golf course began on the European Seniors Tour known as the Jersey Seniors Open.
