Giant Eagle LPGA Classic Golf Tournament
First played: 1990
Last played: 2004
Two golfers won the tournament back-to-back — Michelle McGann in 1995-96 and Dorothy Delasin in 2000-01. Tammie Green joined them as a two-time champ, although non-consecutively in Green's case.
The Giant Eagle Classic had a lot of playoffs, including in each of the first four years and in five of the first six years. The tournament got off to a great start with a playoff in Year 1 between two LPGA heavyweights, Beth Daniel and Patty Sheehan. Daniel won that one, but she was among the playoff losers two years later when Betsy King won.
Nancy Lopez's win in 1993 was her second-to-last on the tour, the 47th of her 48 career LPGA victories. ... When Se Ri Pak burst onto the LPGA scene in 1998, she won four times total that year, including two majors. Her victory in the Giant Eagle Classic was the fourth of those four wins.
When Jackie Gallagher-Smith won in 1999, she set the tournament scoring record of 199. And since her brother, Jim Gallagher Jr., was already a winner on the PGA Tour, she made the Gallaghers just the second brother-sister pair to both have wins on the PGA Tour/LPGA Tour.
