Crestar Farm Fresh Classic Golf Tournament
First played: 1979
Last played: 1992
Also known as: United Virginia Bank Classic, Crestar Classic
This tournament is best-remembered as the place where Kathy Whitworth won for the last time on the LPGA Tour. It was 1985, and the tournament was then-known as the United Virginia Bank Classic. Whitworth won by a stroke over runner-up Amy Alcott for her 88th LPGA title, the tour's all-time record. Three years earlier, Whitworth had lost a playoff here to Sally Little.
Another LPGA great, Hollis Stacy, also recorded her final win in this tournament. Stacy's 18th and last LPGA victory happened here in 1991, when the tournament was called the Crestar-Farm Fresh Classic. Stacy beat three runners-up by one stroke.
Alcott was a 2-time champion, sharing that tournament-best with Juli Inkster, who won her two titles back-to-back. Dottie Mochrie (Dottie Pepper) set the tournament's margin-of-victory record in 1990 when she bested runner-up Chris Johnson by nine shots.
