Bob Hope British Classic Golf Tournament

The PGA Tour tournament that Bob Hope's name was on for decades is still played and well-known; the defunct European Tour event that carried his name much less so. This was also a pro-am, but Hope's name was dropped after the fourth iteration. Then it had almost as many names as it did champions.

First played: 1980

Last played: 1991

Jose Maria Canizares was the first champion in 1980, and he won a second time in 1983. Later, Rodger Davis joined Canizares as a two-time winner of this tournament. Bernhard Langer's win in 1981 was just the third of his eventual 42 victories on the European Tour.

Both of Canizares' victories were on 269, which were the only winning scores in this tournament lower than 270. The largest margin of victory was seven strokes, achieved by Paul Broadhurst in the final year of 1991.
