2001 PGA Championship

The 2001 PGA Championship was the 83rd edition of the tournament.

Winner: David Toms, 265

Where it was played: Atlanta Athletic Club (Highlands Course) in Duluth, Georgia

Tournament dates: August 16-19, 2001

Leader after first round: Grant Waite, 64

Leader after second round: Shingo Katayama and David Toms, 131

Leader after third round: David Toms, 196

Notable Notes: David Toms laid up on the par-4 final hole, a cautious choice that paid off for him. Toms led Phil Mickelson by one stroke but hit his tee shot on the 490-yard hole into the rough. Not sure he could clear water in front of the green, Toms chose to take double-bogey out of the equation. He laid up short of the water, then pitched it close and sank the 12-foot par putt. When Mickelson was unable to birdie, Toms had the victory.
