1995 PGA Championship

The 1995 PGA Championship was the 77th time the tournament was played, and this one went to a playoff..

Winner: Steve Elkington, 267

Where it was played: Riviera Country Club in Los Angeles, California

Tournament dates: August 10-13, 1995

Leader after first round: Michael Bradley, 63

Leader after second round: Ernie Els and Mark O'Meara, 131

Leader after third round: Ernie Els, 197

Notable Notes: Journeyman Michael Bradley opened the tournament by tying the major championship scoring record of 63. Steve Elkington came close to equalling that with a final-round 64 - but still needed a sudden-death playoff to beat Colin Montgomerie for the title. Elkington and Montgomerie, who shot 65 in Round 4, finished at 267, two strokes ahead of Ernie Els and Jeff Maggert. Els took a 3-stroke lead after three rounds, but closed with a 72 to drop back. Elkington finished the playoff quickly with a birdie on the first extra hole.
