The 1991 PGA Championship was the 73rd time the tournament was played.
Winner: John Daly, 276
Where it was played: Crooked Stick Golf Club in Carmel, Indiana
Tournament dates: August 8-11, 1991
Leader after first round: Kenny Knox and Ian Woosnam, 67
Leader after second round: John Daly, 136
Leader after third round: John Daly, 205
Notable Notes: Nick Price's wife was having a baby. That's why he withdrew at the last minute from the 1991 PGA Championship. That opened a spot in the field and, after three other alternates couldn't make it, John Daly - then a virtual unknown - took Price's place. And wound up winning, hitting booming drives along the way and becoming a fan favorite.
Daly led by one after two rounds and by three after the third round. In the final round, he shot 71 and that was good enough to win by three.
