1988 Masters

Sandy Lyle won the 1988 Masters, the 52nd edition of the golf major. It was Lyle's second major championship victory.

Winner: Sandy Lyle, 281

Where it was played: Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, Georgia

Tournament dates: April 7-10, 1988

Leader after first round: Larry Nelson and Robert Wrenn, 69

Leader after second round: Sandy Lyle, 138

Leader after third round: Sandy Lyle, 210

Notable Notes: Three years after winning the British Open, Sandy Lyle added The Masters as his second (and last) major victory.

Lyle led by two entering the final round, but was even with Mark Calcavecchia as Lyle reached the 18th. His approach to the green landed instead in a bunker. Lyle blasted out and left himself with a 10-foot downhill putt. No problem: Lyle sank the birdie to win the tournament.
