1966 Masters

It was the 30th playing of the tournament at the 1966 Masters. To celebrate, Jack Nicklaus won his second in a row.

Winner: Jack Nicklaus, 288

Where it was played: Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, Georgia

Tournament dates: April 7-11, 1966

Leader after first round: Jack Nicklaus, 68

Leader after second round: Paul Harney and Peter Butler, 143

Leader after third round: Jack Nicklaus and Tommy Jacobs

Notable Notes: A 3-way, 18-hole playoff was needed when Jack Nicklaus, Tommy Jacobs and Gay Brewer finished 72 holes tied at 288, the second-highest winning second score in Masters history.

In the playoff, when Nicklaus birdied the 11th hole he took a 2-stroke edge over Jacobs, and maintained that edge until the end. Brewer was never a factor in the playoff (but did win the 1967 Masters next year).

With the victory, Nicklaus became the first back-to-back winner of The Masters.
