1947 Masters

The 1947 Masters was the 11th time the tournament was played.

Winner: Jimmy Demaret, 281

Where it was played: Augusta National Golf Club, Augusta, Georgia

Tournament dates: April 3-6, 1947

Leader after first round: Byron Nelson and Jimmy Demaret, 69

Leader after second round: Cary Middlecoff and Jimmy Demaret, 140

Leader after third round: Jimmy Demaret, 210

Notable Notes: Jimmy Demaret shot four rounds under-par at Augusta National - the first time that was done in The Masters - to seize a 2-stroke victory over Byron Nelson and amateur Frank Stranahan.

Nelson was officially retired from tournament golf, but still played The Masters each year (and perhaps a few others in some years). But Demaret went three clear of the field after three rounds, and held on in the last. He thus became a 2-time winner of The Masters.
