2000 British Open

The 2000 British Open was the 129th time the tournament was played, and the site of Tiger Woods' first Open championship.

Winner: Tiger Woods, 269

Where it was played: The Old Course at St. Andrews, Scotland

Tournament dates: July 20-23, 2000

Leader after first round: Ernie Els, 66

Leader after second round: Tiger Woods, 133

Leader after third round: Tiger Woods, 200

Notable Notes: Tiger Woods ran away with this Open, winning by eight strokes after leading by three following the second round and by six following the third round. Woods' score in relation to par of 19-under was a new scoring record for major championships.

It was Woods' fourth career win in a major, and with it he completed the career grand slam (winning all four professional majors). This was also the second leg in what would come to be called the "Tiger Slam" (Woods won four straight majors from the 2000 U.S. Open through the 2001 Masters.)
